From the Darkroom to Timeless Wedding Stories

The 30+ Year Photography Journey of Digvijay Raj Saxena

NEW DELHI — For Digvijay Raj Saxena, photography has never been just a profession. It has been a lifelong language of art, emotion, memory, and storytelling.

Shimla-born and Delhi-based, Digvijay was blessed by God with a singing voice since birth and used to sing bhajans and songs on different platforms. He was also fond of playing the flute, an art cultivated through his father, Late Shri Jang Bahadur Saxena. Being an artist with All India Radio, Delhi, he presented flute recitals on Yuv Vani and continued voice-over work for the External Services Division (Videsh Prasaran Sewa – Hindi), Commercial Broadcasting Services (Vividh Bharti Sewa), and Rashtriya Prasaran Sewa. An art lover at heart, Digvijay’s connection with creativity naturally extended into visual art and photography. His formal journey into the craft started in 1988, when his friend Atul Arya, whose father was a photography teacher, helped him understand the basic concepts of camera handling and image-making. What began as curiosity soon became disciplined learning, as Digvijay studied photography books and magazines, practiced techniques, and steadily built his foundation.

A major turning point came when family friend Sudhir Kamboj, who was associated with the Photo Division at ICMR, New Delhi, introduced him to the India International Photographic Council (IIPC) at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi. Under the mentorship of the respected photography guru Mr. O. P. Sharma, Digvijay completed his diploma in photography in 1997 and developed a strong understanding of the black-and-white photographic process.

Through various IIPC workshops, he had the opportunity to learn from masters across different fields of photography. Those hands-on sessions shaped his technical discipline and deepened his respect for the craft. Over the years, his camera took him to many important assignments, including an opportunity to cover an event featuring former President of India Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam in Delhi.

He photographed and made a cover story of Amrita Pritam, recipient of the 1956 Sahitya Akademi Award, an Indian novelist, essayist and poet, and a prominent figure in Punjabi literature.

He also got an opportunity to photograph and cover events of politicians like Amar Singh, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Raja Bhaiya and Akshay Pratap Singh.

Digvijay also worked with positive film, also known as slides, for publication use. His photographs were published in magazines such as India Calling by All India Radio, Delhi. His slide work was also appreciated by the team of Ramanand Sagar during the coverage of Mystic India at Pragati Maidan.

“For me, photography is about capturing sweet moments in a personalised and storytelling manner, while preserving the emotion behind every memory.”

After building experience across different formats, Digvijay gradually focused on wedding photography, taking assignments in Delhi as well as outstation locations. His approach evolved around personalised coverage, emotional storytelling, and a commitment to preserving the real essence of each celebration.

With more than 30 years of experience behind him, Digvijay entered a new phase of professional growth through India Photographer’s Club (IPC), led by Abdullah Ansari. As a Diamond Member, he refined his business direction and built his wedding photography brand, The Serene Vows. He also took the franchise of The Mulberry Weddings, further expanding his presence in the wedding photography and filmmaking space.

Today, Digvijay Raj Saxena is known as a wedding photographer, filmmaker, and storyteller who brings together classical photographic discipline and modern wedding aesthetics. Having covered 100+ weddings, he continues to serve couples with personalised wedding and related photography and film coverage, combining experience, ethics, creativity, and emotion in every assignment.

For Digvijay, the journey is still rooted in the same passion that began decades ago: the love for creativity and the desire to capture meaningful moments in a way that families can remember for generations.
